Women In Energy
April 27, 2017
On Wednesday, April 12th, Junior and Senior girls from Shelbyville, Timpson, Carthage, Gary, Center, Joaquin, and Beckville Hish Schools attended “Women In Energy” at Panola College. Four different companies spoke to area schools about how women are needed in the energy, oil and gas fields.
Speakers included Chemical Engineer Michelle Carder from Eastman Chemical, Chemical Engineer Theresa Walker-Evans from Calumet Specialty, Petroleum Engineer Allie Garcia from Tanos Exploration, and Mechanical Engineer Kara Byrne from GE Oil & Gas.
At the end of the event, sponsors from Panola set up a game for all of the schools to participate in a game called, “Battle Of The Schools”. Three students from each of the schools were brought up in front of the gym to answer questions that were asked earlier that day.
“It was interesting to learn about how men are not the only ones who can work in the Oil & Energy field. It increased my knowledge on Petroleum,Oil, and Mechanical Engineering,” said junior, Macy Frazier.
