This year’s cross country season has recently kicked off, and with a few meets under their belt, the cross country team will be traveling to New Summerfield on October 10 to compete in the district meet.

“We have a really great team this year,” sophomore runner Emma Adams said. “Hopefully we do well at district.”

There are 13 kids running this year, and one of the freshmen has placed in the top three at all three meets.

“I’ve been doing very well so far this season,” freshman runner Carlee Linebarger said. “I hope I get to go to state this year.”

Many kids use cross country to get ready for the other sports that take place in further in the year.

“Cross country is good for me,” freshman runner Nicolas Anderson said. “It helps me get in shape for basketball season.”

This year’s coach has been coaching cross country for years, and he has coached several successful runners.

“Our runners are working really hard,” cross country coach Jimmy Wallace said. “They’re preparing to compete for district champs in a few weeks.”

The cross country team is confident in the skill set of their team this year.

“We have a strong team on both boy’s and girl’s sides,” sophomore runner Ty Ransom said. “There’s a good chance for both divisions to go to regionals.”
