The Gary Bobcat boys basketball teams kicked off the season Tuesday, November 13, and before the game, the Bobcats Cheerleaders started it off with an amazing pep-rally!

This year’s Bobcats had to do a rebuilding process after losing 6 seniors, including 4 of  5 of last year’s starters.

¨We have 6 guys that are new on varsity this year, so we are learning and getting better each day,” varsity basketball coach Jimmy Wallace said.

The Bobcats looked very good for their first game of the year. They  had an outstanding game against the Waskom Wildcats, where they won 77-26.

Senior Cole McDaniel led the team in points with 21! Sophomores Ryan Ecker, and Dakota Beckham combined for 16 steals, with 8 steals a piece! Other teammates had valuable points and minutes.

The Bobcats went on to the Wells tournament where they went 2-2 and got 3rd place overall.

In spite of having such a young team the captains are confident about how this this season will go.

Sophomore team captain and Ryan Ecker said, “Were progressing very well as district approaches. We’re very young this year, I  think we’re improving very well. I think we’ll be good at district”

The Bobcats played decent overall  in pre-district play, and the whole team shot the ball very well from deep.

Team Captain and Senior Cole McDaniel said, “We had our struggles at the beginning but now we’re putting things together. We’re doing really well, and I think we can definitely compete for district champions again and make a good run in the playoffs”
